Desperate, the citizens of Zagreb managed to acquire a long-range cannon from a workshop in Vienna and hauled it up the Lotrščak Tower on Grič Hill. As Hasan-paša feasted in his tent, the Zagreb cannon fired a single, well-aimed shot. The cannonball missed the pasha but struck the rooster that was about to be served for his meal. The ensuing blast of air created by the ball was so powerful it collapsed all the tents. Panicked, the Ottoman forces fled. The legend explains that the daily noon cannon fire from the Lotrščak Tower commemorates this heroic shot that saved Zagreb from invasion.
