Xplane 12 A380 [patched]

Peter Hager (Peter’s Aircraft) has been the traditional vanguard of the Airbus lineup in X-Plane for over a decade. His A380 project has undergone continuous updates to transition from X-Plane 11 into the X-Plane 12 ecosystem.

Flying the XPlane 12 A380 is a lesson in energy management. Do not expect it to handle like an A320.

This project is ambitious. X-Works aims to build a rendition with , along with a fully custom cabin and cockpit. This is a first for the team, as they are not modifying an existing model but building the aircraft from the ground up. Early previews shared on their Discord server in April 2024 showed progress on the fuselage, nose gear, and initial cockpit work. However, the development was described as being in its early stages, so don't expect an immediate release. It's also not yet confirmed whether the final product will be payware or freeware.

X-Plane 12 features a volumetric weather engine. Flying the Superjumbo through towering cumulus clouds or navigating severe crosswinds on approach makes the landing phase incredibly challenging and rewarding.

Currently, there is no "study-level" payware A380 for X-Plane 12 (like the Felis 747 or FlightFactor 777). However, the freeware scene is holding the fort.

The A380’s advanced fly-by-wire system is simulated to handle complex RNAV approaches and auto-land procedures, which is critical given its size. Peter Hager (Peter’s Aircraft) has been the traditional

The flight deck of the A380 is distinct, sitting lower than a standard 747 and featuring massive display units. In X-Plane 12, developers have utilized standard 4K and 8K PBR (Physically Based Rendering) textures.

He pulled back on the sidestick, and the nose rose with a majestic, heavy grace. As the landing gear tucked away, the aircraft entered a thick layer of cumulus clouds. This was where X-Plane 12 excelled. The cockpit dimmed as shadows swept over the instrument panel, and droplets of rain began to streak across the windshield, following the aerodynamic lines of the nose.

X-Plane 12 features a revamped wake turbulence model. The A380 generates a "Super" wake category, meaning AI or multiplayer aircraft trailing behind you will experience severe, realistic disruptions. Do not expect it to handle like an A320

The first true study-level A380 for X-Plane will likely come from FlightFactor or a new team, but don't expect it before X-Plane 13. For now, enjoy the freeware—just don't look too closely at the overhead panel.

For decades, flight simulation enthusiasts have been captivated by the "Queen of the Skies," the Boeing 747. But in recent years, a new monarch has captured the imagination of virtual pilots: the Airbus A380. With its double-deck, four-engine majesty, the A380 represents the pinnacle of commercial aviation engineering. Now, with the release of Laminar Research’s XPlane 12 , simmers are asking one question louder than all others:
